Who Can Apply for GDS Recruitment?
The GDS recruitment is particularly suitable for candidates who have completed their Class 10 education and meet the other conditions prescribed by the Department of Posts.
Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (Class 10) from a recognized Board of School Education. Passing marks in Mathematics and English are required.

GDS Salary 2026
Selected candidates will receive Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) along with applicable allowances and benefits.
The initial TRCA slabs mentioned in the notification are:
- BPM: โน12,000 to โน29,380
- ABPM/Dak Sevak: โน10,000 to โน24,470
The TRCA carries an annual increase of 3%, subject to fulfillment of the applicable conditions. GDS personnel are also entitled to Dearness Allowance and certain other allowances and social-security benefits under the applicable GDS rules.

India Post GDS Job Profile
BPM
A Branch Postmaster handles the day-to-day functioning of the Branch Post Office and related India Post Payments Bank activities. The BPM can also be responsible for mail conveyance and delivery, customer services and promotion of postal products.
A selected BPM must arrange accommodation for operating the Branch Post Office and is required to reside in the post village where the Branch Office is located.
ABPM
The Assistant Branch Postmaster assists in postal operations and may handle activities such as the sale of stamps and stationery, mail delivery and IPPB transactions.
The ABPM may also perform duties assigned by the BPM or other senior officials.
Dak Sevak
Dak Sevaks perform various postal duties involving mail handling, delivery, customer services and other work assigned by the Department. They may be posted in Branch Post Offices, Head Post Offices, Sorting Offices and other designated postal establishments.
India Post GDS Selection Process
The selection process is one of the most important features of this recruitment.
Candidates will be shortlisted through a system-generated merit list. The merit list is prepared using marks obtained in the Class 10 Secondary School Examination and the marks are aggregated into a percentage up to four decimal places.
How Merit Is Calculated
If the Class 10 marksheet contains marks, the actual marks obtained are considered.
Where the marksheet contains grades or grade points, the Department follows the prescribed conversion procedure. For example, the notification specifies a multiplication factor of 9.5 for the conversion of applicable grades/points.
